Kona City Guide
Kona is located on the west side, or leeward coast of the Big Island. Kona, like other towns located on the leeward side of Hawaiian Islands, has mild dry weather most of the year. The climate in Kona makes it a great destination to enjoy some of the most sun drenched beaches in Hawaii. Kona is the second largest town on the Big Island, and like Hilo it has an international Airport, and a University of Hawaii local campus. The one thing that Kona is probably most famous for around the world is its divinely delicious Kona Coffee.
Plantations line the countryside all over The big Island, however here in Kailua Kona coffee reigns supreme over other crops. Because of the warm mostly dry climate, and the wonderfully rich black volcanic soil, the coffee plantations of Kona produce some of the worlds finest coffee. Many of the plantations offer tours where visitors can see the plantation, and roasting facilities, and sample some of the many heavenly varieties of Kona Coffee.
