Paia City Guide
Paia like many Hawaiian towns formed around the sugar cane plantations, that were established there in the 1800's. Many of the old plantation style buildings are still in use today. Paia, located on the North Shore of Maui, just down the road from Ho'okipa Beach is often referred to as "The Wind Surfing Capital of the World". More recently it has become a popular kite surfing spot as well. While Paia's popularity mainly developed around the various forms of surfing in Maui's North Shore surf, it is also well known as the last stop when heading east out of town on the Hana Highway and as the final destination for cyclers finishing the long thrilling ride down from Haleakela.
